My name is Ms. Miller, and I’m thrilled to be returning to the Bates Elementary family as a first-grade teacher! I’m a proud Libra, born on October 10th, and I bring balance, creativity, and passion into everything I do—especially teaching.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from THEE Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, and I’m excited to begin my first year in first grade, helping young learners grow academically and socially.
Outside of school, I’m a nature lover, music enthusiast, and a firm believer in the importance of family and creating meaningful experiences. I strive to make my classroom a warm, engaging space where every child feels valued, supported, and inspired to learn.
I can’t wait to embark on this journey with my students and their families. Let’s make this a fantastic year together!

Sandra Owens

My name is Mrs. Owens, and I’m honored to be part of this incredible learning community. I’m a proud wife and stepmother to three wonderful children. My faith as a Christian guides my life, and I find joy in traveling, exploring new places, and—most of all—teaching. Education is truly my passion.
With 26 years of experience in the classroom, I’ve had the privilege of making a meaningful impact on student learning. Every year brings new opportunities to grow alongside my students, and I cherish the journey we take together.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Southern University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Xavier University of Louisiana. I’m also a proud veteran, having served in the Army National Guard—an experience that shaped my dedication, resilience, and commitment to service.
I look forward to a year filled with learning, laughter, and growth. Let’s make it a great one!

Hi there! I'm Ms. Mack, and I’m so excited to begin my journey as a first-grade teacher here at Bates Elementary! This is my first year teaching, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to work with such bright, curious young minds.
I’m a proud graduate of Jackson State University, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education—Go Tigers! Outside of the classroom, I love shopping, spending time with friends and family, and working with youth in my community. These passions help me bring energy, creativity, and connection into my teaching.

Ebony Hopkins

My name is Mrs. Hopkins, and I’m so excited to be joining the team as a First Grade Instructional Assistant! I’m newly married, a proud mom of three, and a bonus mom to two amazing kids. Family means everything to me, and I bring that same care and dedication into the classroom.
I have a deep passion for early childhood education and truly enjoy helping young learners grow—academically, socially, and emotionally. Watching students discover new things and build confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of my work.
I hold an Associate of Science degree from South College and am currently continuing my education at Belhaven University, where I’m working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. I’m committed to lifelong learning and excited to grow alongside my students this year.

Denesha Hopkins

Hello! I'm Ms. Hopkins, and I’m proud to be part of the educational community here at Bates Elementary. I’m originally from Jackson, Mississippi, and I’ve been working in education for 8 wonderful years.
Outside of the classroom, I love to travel, shop, and immerse myself in music. I’m a full-time musician—both a pianist and a drummer—and I bring that creativity and rhythm into my teaching style.
I’m also a proud graduate of Jackson Public Schools, having attended Callaway High School. My roots in this community run deep, and I’m passionate about helping students grow and thrive both academically and personally.
I’m excited for another great year of learning and connection!

Hello! My name is Ms. Moore, and I’m proud to serve as a First-Grade Teacher Assistant here at Bates Elementary. I’m a mother of two and a grandmother to three beautiful grandchildren—family is at the heart of everything I do.
This school year marks my 8th year at Bates, and I’m just as excited and passionate about supporting young learners as I was on day one. I truly enjoy helping children grow academically, socially, and emotionally during these foundational years.
I studied Business Administration at Hinds Community College and am currently continuing my education in Early Childhood at Belhaven University. I believe in lifelong learning and am committed to growing alongside my students every day.
